REVIEW – The Bakehouse Company, Broughton Street

Yum yum and mmmmm  is all I can say about the Bakehouse Company in Broughton Street.  Absolutely EVERYTHING is delicious.   It’s at number 32, which is on the left hand side as you look down Broughton Street – telephone number 0131 557 1157

Bakehouse 4

I’ve eaten here a few times, and taken advantage of their fantastic takeaway produce (hot pies, sandwiches and cakes etc)

I popped in for a quick breakfast on Monday with my mum and was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff.  We were the first ones there, so this is why the picture shows it empty

Bakehouse  Within 20 minutes of us being there, the tables were pretty much full.

We loved the look of the breakfast menu

but our noses were distracted by the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen.  Everything is baked on the premises and is therefore extremely fresh.

We opted for the fresh fruit scones with jam and butter and they came out of the oven piping hot and were delicious.  My mum had a lovely cup of coffee (she is an expert, I don’t even drink the stuff) and it came with the choice of  hot milk and I had an organic mango and orange juice.

I’m sorry to say that I was too busy chatting and enjoying the food that I didn’t note the prices at the time, but they seemed very fair.

Bakehouse 3

The atmosphere in the Bakehouse is very relaxed and I love it’s old style decor with ancient till register.

You can eat at any time of the day here – sandwiches , platters and a wide selection of cakes.

The Bakehouse Company is my favourite place to eat at the moment in joint position with Tea Tree Tea in Bread Sreet.  The only thing that dictates one over the other is what side of town I am on when hunger strikes !

Highly recommended from I Love Edinburgh    :)     :)

Suitable for disabled ?     Yes, it’s on level ground   :)

Didn’t know this place existed Alison, will give it a try if it’s on a par with Tea Tree Tea.

  • Saw this place while sitting in the Broughton Street traffic the other day on the way to Craigwell Cottage, so it may be another place I can send my guests Thanks for the review, sounds great and I’ll check it out. If you’re hungry and near Easter Road I recommend the Manna House, which I just posted to a new travel site you might like, nextstop.com

  • Susan, it really is great – I think any visitors to Edinburgh would love the ‘old charm’ of the place and the food really is THAT good. I’ve reviewed Manna House already, there’s not many bakeries I haven’t reviewed !! Regards, Alison
