REVIEW – Private Party At The Gurkha Brigade

A couple of Fridays ago, I went to a private party of 20 people who were dining at the Gurkha Brigade at Antigua Street, Edinburgh (opposite the Playhouse).

Gurkha

Having been to Nepal on holiday, I like the memories this place brings back with the smiling faces and echos of  ’namaste’ as you enter.

There is a private room at the back of the restaurant which can accommodate up to 30 people.  We thought 20 was a good number and didn’t feel squashed in.

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the evening’s food as I was drinking alcohol and left my camera at home !!

I had previously negotiated with Paru, the owner,  to a buffet.  We were given a starter of mixed pakora and pickles, then helped ourselves to various curries (some vegetarian, 2 chicken and 1 lamb to choose from) along with nan bread and rice.  There was AMPLE food for us and just when we could eat no more, the staff would refill the hot plates again for us to try even more !   We paid £15 per head for this buffet, which included a glass of wine and for Friday night dining is quite a reasonable price.  Other alcoholic drinks were additional.

The food quality is good, but the surrounds are a little tired, but I didn’t care, it’s all about the food for me, which is is why this and the Kebab Mahal are my favourites !

We will be returning to this restaurant as a group again and I will review it properly the next time I am in with pictures.  Highly recommended from me

Suitable for disabled ?    Yes, it’s all on even ground, although the toilet isn’t specifically for disabled and is a little tight on space for a wheelchair
